Hi,we are creating a hardware independent image using Altiris deployment solution 6.9. I attended this course recently but because our books are ebooks now and not paper, my note taking was terrible.
We create images normally for several systems and during this course, we learned that the drivers for each system can be downloaded and the inf files can be extracted, so the whole software package doesnt need to be installed. The inf files are then placed in a folder with a corresponding name (system type). But somewhere, we need to make a drivers.txt file, and I have a note that says: make folder for the drivers (but didnt write where that folder needs to be), then in the folder make a text file called: drivers.txt (dont remember why or what needs to be in the text file) I think the model specific name should be in there but not sure. Then all drivers are downloaded and the necessary inf and other files for the inf are extracted and put in to folders (not sure where in the directory). After that, the hardware independent image is pushed to the systems and those systems will grab the drivers from somewhere on the deployment server.
I only find some info on DeployAnywhere but we actually use the Altiris Deployment Solution with PXE and also any info I find is for Windows Xp and not Windows 7, not sure if that matters.
Does anyone know the procedure for the drivers and or if there are any help files anywhere?
Thanks,
Paul
