Need to push settings files to machines, what is the best ?

I need to push new settings files to machines that have an identified software.

I've created a new resource to match all the different software version/release.

Now I wonder what is the best to push my files :

-a task ?

-a new package associate has a software update for my new software resource ? (+ policy)

My clients are not always up, I need to be able to do compliance checks, and I also need to be able to uninstall or update those files.

So in my opinion, it looks to be better to create a package and associate it as a software update.

What are you using in your environment ? If you use packages, do you add a script to copy the files, or do you directly add the copy command in install command line ?
