Hello!
I work for a school district in Colorado and we use Ghost Boot Manager 11.5.1.2266 to make our bootable USB fobs for imaging around the district. We have a mix of desktops and laptops, as well as an assortment of Dell models. Right now our primary desktop model is the Optiplex 3020 and our primary laptop model is the Latitude e5420. When I make these fobs for the desktops, all works quite well. However, when I make them for the laptops, not so much.
I can't pull an IP from the Ghost USB, so I have no choice but to image locally using my WD external. This works fine, but it's not at all efficient when I have more than one machine to image. I know that this comes down to a driver issue, and that I'm not including the right drivers to use the NIC in our e5420s. But I've tried including the driver CAB from dell (http://en.community.dell.com/techcenter/enterprise-client/w/wiki/2174.latitude-e5420-windows-7-driver-cab), as well as individually downloading every single e5420 driver from Dell's "Drivers and Downloads" page (http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product-support/product/latitude-e5420/drivers), and so on. I still cannot find the right driver(s) to include on my fob so that I can pull an IP and multicast from my Ghost Boot USB.
I've tried both the PCDOS and WINPE options, and have no luck with either. Even the more seasoned techs in my shop seem less than certain about which drivers I should include, and I hate to continue probing them wiht my annoying questions (I'm the new guy here). Can anyone point me in the right direction? Please keep in mind that I'm still a bit green, so go easy on the jargon please. =-)
