Can you please share your experiences on how you manage the inventory of new computers ?
For example, if you just received 20 new laptops, do you enter the details eg. serial number + asset number into a spreasheet and then import into the CMDB or you wait for the laptop to be deployed and have the information automatically sent to the CMDB?
I am still in the basic setting up phase of my AMS so please bare with me. I am thinking to create a custom data class to import the spreadsheet information to (serial number+asset number). In this custom data class, I am thinking of having the following fields: Serial Number | Asset Number | Status (InStock;Deployed). Once the laptop is deployed, a task/rule will do a search on the Serial number field to match with the deployed computer's SN. Once a match is found, the Asset Number will be assigned to the computer. The status in the custom data class will be changed to "Deployed".
