Discovery / inventory of newly added business?

Hi, Dont know if this is possible or the best practice but looking for some advice. Our comapny has recently acquired another small business. At the moment there is no trust in place but we have IP access via a VPN to their network. We need to do an inventory of hardware and software to gauge what needs updated / what software they have installed. Is this something I can do using current altirs CMS 'Without' installing the agent on every machine. The agent will eventaully be put on but would rather not at this point!
